Civil Engineering Student Worker Program
This program, offered in partnership by Center for Transportation Studies (CTS) and MnDOT, is designed to provide an opportunity for undergraduate students interested in transportation-related careers to gain real-world skills to complement their academic pursuits.
As part of the program, students spend 12-14 weeks in paid positions at MnDOT gaining hands-on professional experience. Participants work on transportation-focused projects and are provided with mentoring, training and development opportunities.
How to Apply
The Civil Engineering Student Worker Program is no longer accepting applications for summer 2024 positions. The program will begin recruiting for summer 2025 opportunitites in the fall. In the meantime, you can check out other student worker opportunitites with the State of Minnesota using the following steps:
- Go to mn.gov/careers
- Select Search open positions
- In the Search bar, enter Student Worker
- Select the job title to view a posting (filter results by using the menu on the left side)
- Select Apply
- Register as a new user or sign in
Supplemental materials
In addition to applying at mn.gov/careers, students applying to the Civil Engineering Student Worker Program must also submit the following items via email:
- Resume - include your anticipated graduation date
- Transcript - unofficial is acceptable
- Letter of Recommendation*
- A one page Statement of Interest which includes:
• Why you want to participate in this program
• Your future academic and career goals
• Your relevant skills and experience
* MnDOT requires reference checks for candidates who are extended a contingent job offer. A Letter of Recommendation may be used as part of the reference check. If a Letter of Recommendation is not available, the candidate will be required to provide an additional reference.
